Welcome!

Our family lives in a small house, by American standards. We have 850 square feet to do most of our living in. No attic, no basement. We do have a spacious--albeit crumbling--garage that we use for storage and spider breeding. We have a shed for garden supplies and bikes, and a generous lot at about 5,000 sq ft. We live in the city of Seattle, but near the border. One thing we love about Seattle is that each neighborhood has its own character, and little "downtown" of shops and services. We live about 1/4 mile from our little downtown, so we can walk to most everything we really need. We value walkability and bikeability over driveability, but we do own a car.

When we first bought the house in 2008, the real estate bubble was bursting all over the country, but Seattle was staying strong in comparison. At the time, we got a pretty good deal. Older house (1943), but new roof, new windows, new flooring, new paint, new siding. Since then the market tumbled even more and we found ourselves underwater. We thought we'd be here 3-5 years. The market's back up and so is our house value, but we like where we live, so we're going to stick it out a while longer.

In the meantime, I'll share my thoughts about living small and having a great life! If you expect fancy Pintrest-worthy magazine photos, you'll be disappointed. I don't have the time or the inclination to clean things up all pretty pretty before I take a picture, so you'll just have to accept the unvarnished (or filtered) truth.
